TAX VOLUNTEERING: NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY STUDENTS
Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University hosted a training seminar entitled “Tax Volunteer of East Kazakhstan Region,” aimed at improving young people’s tax literacy and developing the volunteer movement in the region.
The event was organized as part of the regional youth educational and volunteer project “Tax Culture: Youth and the State,” implemented by the Department of State Revenues for East Kazakhstan Region in cooperation with regional universities.
The meeting covered issues related to tax and legal culture, the fundamentals of volunteer activities, and opportunities for students to participate in socially significant initiatives. Participants discussed the legal foundations of volunteering, the qualities expected of a modern volunteer, and the role of volunteers in providing the public with reliable information.
Gulmira Sabralimova, Head of the Explanatory Work and Contact Center Division of the Department of State Revenues for East Kazakhstan Region, provided information on the activities of state revenue authorities, the main types of taxes, the specific features of tax administration, and recent changes in the tax legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The speaker also highlighted opportunities for young people to pursue professional development within the state revenue system. Students learned about the requirements for entering the civil service, candidate selection procedures, and career development prospects, including opportunities available to graduates of law programs.
As a practical continuation of the seminar, an intellectual team quiz entitled “Taxes That Changed the World” was organized under the guidance of project coordinator Kuat Rakhimberdin, Doctor of Legal Sciences.
Four student teams took part in the competition. The questions covered different periods in the history of taxation and customs. Participants demonstrated their knowledge of topics ranging from ancient civilizations and the era of Genghis Khan to the tax system of the Kazakh Khanate, the development of customs in East Kazakhstan, and modern economic integration processes.
During the competition, students not only tested their knowledge but also demonstrated logical thinking, the ability to justify their answers, and teamwork skills. Following an engaging discussion and competitive contest, the winners were determined and awarded prizes.
The seminar gave students an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the country’s tax system and the activities of state revenue authorities. The “Tax Volunteer of East Kazakhstan Region” initiative is particularly significant, as it enables young people to participate in information and awareness-raising activities and, within the scope of their competencies, contribute to improving the financial and legal literacy of the public.
Implementation of the project at Amanzholov University creates new opportunities for students’ professional development, strengthens their civic responsibility, and allows them to apply their knowledge in practice. Further educational and awareness-raising initiatives are planned to strengthen cooperation between the University and state revenue authorities.
