MOCK TRIAL FOR STUDENTS HELD AT AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY
Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University organized a mock trial entitled “Consideration of a Case on the Merits.”
Third-year students of the Law and Judicial and Prosecutorial Activities educational programs took part in the practical session. The event was also attended by Angelika Vladimirovna Volotkina, Judge of the East Kazakhstan Regional Court, and Marianna Ivanovna Dyachuk, Candidate of Legal Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Jurisprudence and academic supervisor.
The main purpose of the mock trial was to integrate students’ theoretical knowledge with practical experience, develop future lawyers’ comprehensive understanding of the judicial system, and provide them with initial professional experience in conditions closely resembling an actual court hearing.
During the event, students practiced the structure and key stages of judicial proceedings and the procedure for conducting a court hearing. They also developed skills in applying legal norms to specific situations, searching for and interpreting legislation, and collecting, examining, and evaluating evidence.
Particular attention was paid to developing participants’ professional communication skills. Students practiced courtroom speaking, presenting and substantiating their positions, preparing procedural documents, working as a team, and acting in accordance with courtroom procedures.
The mock trial was also aimed at strengthening future lawyers’ legal awareness, fostering respect for the law, promoting compliance with judicial ethics, and developing a sense of professional responsibility. Students explored in practice the importance of the principles of adversarial proceedings, judicial independence, and professional legal ethics.
Such practical classes contribute to improving students’ professional preparation and developing their ability to apply acquired knowledge to real legal situations.
