MATHEMATICS AS A FOUNDATION FOR PROFESSIONAL GROWTH

A lecture entitled “The Potential of Higher Mathematics Education: Career Growth and Research Prospects” was held for first-year students at the Department of Mathematics of the Higher School of IT and Natural Sciences of Amanzholov University. The meeting became an important part of the first-year students’ adaptation period and offered them a new perspective on their chosen field of study, its opportunities, and prospects for further professional development.

The lecture was delivered by Elmira Maratovna Magzumova, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.

At the beginning of their university journey, it is especially important for students to understand that higher education is not limited to studying academic disciplines and completing assignments. Every subject, acquired knowledge, and developed skill can become a foundation for further professional growth, research activities, and building a successful career. For this reason, the meeting focused primarily on the opportunities that high-quality mathematics education can provide to graduates.

During the lecture, first-year students were introduced to the main areas of activity of the Department of Mathematics, as well as its educational and research work. Students learned about the knowledge and competencies they will be able to acquire during their studies and how these can be applied beyond the University.

Particular attention was paid to the professional opportunities available to graduates in mathematics-related fields. Students learned about the wide range of areas in which mathematical knowledge is in demand, including education, IT, data analysis, finance, research, and other fields that require strong logical thinking, the ability to work with information, analyse complex problems, and develop unconventional solutions.

A separate part of the meeting was devoted to research opportunities. Students were informed that from their first years of study, they can gradually become involved in research activities, develop an interest in scientific problems, and participate in conferences, projects, and other academic events. Such experience allows students not only to deepen their knowledge of mathematics, but also to develop independent research skills.

For first-year students, the meeting provided an opportunity to ask important questions about their further studies, professional choices, and development prospects. This format of interaction helps students understand the significance of their chosen field from the very beginning of their studies and identify specific directions for future growth.

The Department of Mathematics continues to create opportunities for the professional and academic development of students, helping them realise the potential of their chosen field and confidently take their first steps towards the future.
