“READING NATION”: AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY JOINS NATIONAL READING MARATHON

The second stage of the national book-reading marathon “Reading Nation” was officially launched at Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University.

The project is being implemented in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev dated May 16, 2026, “On Measures to Develop a Reading Culture and Build an Intellectual Nation.”

Students, faculty members, and university staff took part in the event, which was held at the Mamrayev Scientific Library.

In her address to the participants, The Chairman of the Board – Rector Gulzhan Jarassova emphasized the importance of literature in broadening people’s horizons, developing analytical thinking, and strengthening the intellectual potential of young people. She officially launched the project and passed the baton to the students.

The main stage of the marathon began on September 15. Over the course of several months, participants will read 15 works included in the competition list and prepare their reviews and reflections. At the final stage, participants will take a test based on the books they have read and participate in intellectual quizzes.

The university stage will be held on an individual basis. The three students who achieve the best results will become members of the university team and represent the University at the regional stage.

As part of the “I Am Reading This Book!” campaign, representatives of the Higher Schools presented the books they had selected and shared their recommendations with the university community. At the end of the event, the students delivered a joint message: “We read books! We develop our thinking skills! We are the youth of a reading nation!”

Participation in the project creates opportunities for meaningful discussions about literature, encourages greater interest in reading among young people, and brings the university community together around intellectual initiatives.
