OPEN LECTURE “HISTORICAL MILESTONES OF KAZAKH STATEHOOD” HELD AT AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY
Ahead of Republic Day of Kazakhstan, Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University held an open lecture entitled “Historical Milestones of Kazakh Statehood.” The lecture was delivered by Aliya Oskembai, Candidate of Historical Sciences and Associate Professor at the Department of History of Kazakhstan and Social and Humanitarian Disciplines.
During the lecture, students became familiar with the main stages in the formation and development of Kazakh statehood, the historical prerequisites for the emergence of the state, and the events that played an important role in the country’s history. Particular attention was paid to the continuity of historical periods and the significance of national heritage in shaping the modern statehood of Kazakhstan.
A separate part of the lecture was devoted to the history of Republic Day. On July 16, 2022, at the National Kurultai, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed restoring Republic Day as a national holiday, emphasizing its importance as a symbol of the country’s historical path toward statehood. Following amendments to the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On Holidays in the Republic of Kazakhstan,” October 25 once again became a national holiday, while December 16 retained the status of a state holiday.
The lecturer examined in detail the origins and development of statehood on the territory of Kazakhstan, drawing on archaeological, anthropological, linguistic, and historical sources. The material was presented chronologically, from ancient times to the present day, allowing students to trace the historical processes that influenced the formation of Kazakh statehood.
An important part of the lecture focused on historical figures who made a significant contribution to the establishment and strengthening of the state. Their lives and legacies provided a basis for discussing civic responsibility, patriotism, and respect for the history of one’s homeland.
The open lecture contributed to deepening students’ historical knowledge, broadening their horizons, and strengthening their interest in national heritage. Holding such events ahead of Republic Day helps young people better understand the historical foundations of independent Kazakhstan and recognize their responsibility for its future.
