AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY CONDUCTED A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSE FOR CHEMISTRY TEACHERS

Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University conducted a professional development course for teachers under the educational program “Developing Teachers’ Professional Competencies through the Integration of Chemistry Education Content and Practice.”

The program is aimed at improving the professional skills of chemistry teachers, deepening their subject knowledge, and introducing them to modern approaches to organizing the educational process. Particular emphasis is placed on integrating theoretical knowledge with practical activities and applying effective educational technologies in chemistry teaching.

The training course, approved by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, covers a wide range of current topics. Teachers study the structure and requirements of state regulatory documents and become familiar with the results of international and national assessments of education quality, including PISA and MODO. They also explore opportunities to apply the findings of these studies in their teaching practice.

A separate section of the course is devoted to developing teachers’ professional competencies, planning the educational process using SMART technologies, and preparing SMART plans and short-term lesson plans. Participants also learn how to integrate educational values with expected learning outcomes.

The practical component of the program introduces teachers to modern methods of organizing research and project activities, conducting chemistry experiments, and using virtual laboratories and 3D models to study chemical processes.

In addition, the course covers approaches to solving chemistry olympiad problems at national and international levels, as well as opportunities to use digital technologies and artificial intelligence tools in the educational process.

An important aspect of the training is the exchange of professional experience. Teachers share their methodological materials, discuss contemporary educational ideas, and develop mini-lesson projects using the knowledge and skills acquired during the course. They present their final projects and demonstrate the methods and approaches they have mastered in practice.

The course was conducted by San Sovetbekovna Orazova, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Chemistry.

Such educational programs contribute to improving the quality of natural science education, developing the professional community of teachers, and introducing modern teaching methods into the educational process.
