AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY TRAINS FUTURE RELIGIOUS STUDIES SPECIALISTS

The training of specialists in the field of religious studies at Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University is grounded in a blend of fundamental knowledge and practical skills. To this end, the “Religious Studies – Philosophy” educational program was established in 2020, having produced 51 graduates to date, with another 29 students completing their studies this year.

To ensure continuity in specialist training, the “Philosophy – Religious Studies” master’s program was launched in 2024. It offers graduates the opportunity to deepen their expertise and pursue doctoral studies.

Today, alumni work across government bodies, educational institutions, and organizations related to the religious sphere, including specialists working within the structures of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan. The university’s key partners include the Department for Religious Affairs of the East Kazakhstan Region, the Center for the Study of Religious Problems of the East Kazakhstan Region, and other state agencies.

During practical training, students visit places of worship, engage with representatives of various confessions, and master analytical and monitoring methodologies. Furthermore, they actively participate in academic mobility programs, international conferences, and scientific research projects.

On June 10, 2026, the university hosted a regional round table titled “Practice-Oriented Religious Studies Education: The Case of the East Kazakhstan Region.” During the event, a tripartite memorandum of cooperation was signed between Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University, the Department for Religious Affairs of the East Kazakhstan Region, and the Center for the Study of Religious Problems of the East Kazakhstan Region.

The round table addressed key matters regarding the professional training of religious scholars, as well as the prevention of religious extremism and terrorism. University faculty, industry experts, and students delivered thematic presentations, underscoring the critical importance of practice-oriented education.
