“BIOVISION – 2026”: A SCIENTIFIC AND INTELLECTUAL COMPETITION AT THE INTERSECTION OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND BIOLOGY

As part of “Science Month – 2026,” the Department of Biology at Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University organized a scientific and intellectual cytology competition titled “BioVision,” based on the application of artificial intelligence technologies.

The competition was aimed at deepening students’ theoretical knowledge in cytology, effectively utilizing the capabilities of artificial intelligence in studying cellular structures, as well as developing scientific thinking and research skills.

First- to third-year students took part in the competition, demonstrating their knowledge and creative abilities across two stages.

In the first stage, titled “Mini Atlas of Cells and AI-Based Modeling of Cellular Structures,” participants presented scientifically grounded models of cellular structures. The teams conducted an in-depth analysis of morphological features and functional organization of cells and presented results developed using modern AI tools. Notably, the models were created not only in digital format but also using various creative materials, which vividly reflected the participants’ innovative approach.

The second stage, an intellectual contest “AI vs Student: Who Understands the Cell Better?”, involved analyzing biological statements containing errors generated by artificial intelligence. The teams identified inaccuracies, demonstrating critical thinking, the ability to draw scientifically grounded conclusions, and to evaluate the reliability of biological information.

According to the results of the competition, participants not only strengthened their knowledge in cytology but also elevated their skills in scientific research, teamwork, and the application of innovative technologies. The “BioVision” competition became an important platform for developing the scientific potential of young researchers and promoting digital transformation in biological science.
