RUSSIAN PROFESSOR DELIVERED A COURSE ON TOURISM AND RECREATIONAL DESIGN TO AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY STUDENTS
Amanzholov University continues its work to develop international academic cooperation and engage international experts in the educational process. As part of this initiative, Alexander Nikolaevich Dunets, Doctor of Geographical Sciences and Professor at the Department of Economic Geography and Cartography of the Institute of Geography at Altai State University in Barnaul, Russian Federation, visited the University.
Professor Dunets delivered a course entitled “Tourism and Recreational Design” for students of the Department of Ecology and Geography of the Higher School of IT and Natural Sciences. The classes were designed to combine theoretical knowledge with practical activities. The course covered modern approaches to the study and planning of tourism and recreational areas, assessment of their natural, historical, and cultural potential, as well as the development of tourism routes and projects.
This field is particularly important for East Kazakhstan, a region distinguished by its unique natural landscapes, diverse recreational resources, and rich historical and cultural heritage. Effective planning of tourism areas makes it possible not only to use the region’s potential efficiently but also to ensure responsible environmental management and preserve natural sites for future generations.
During the classes, particular attention was paid to spatial planning, the rational use of recreational resources, and the integration of sustainable development principles into tourism activities. The practical part of the course enabled students to consolidate their knowledge and develop approaches to designing tourism and recreational projects in accordance with modern industry requirements.
The content of the course was also closely linked to the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In particular, Goal 4 – Quality Education focused on strengthening students’ professional knowledge and practical skills; Goal 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth emphasized the training of specialists required for the development of tourism and the regional economy; and Goal 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities addressed the principles of effective spatial planning and the preservation of cultural heritage.
In addition, Goal 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production promotes the careful use of tourism and recreational resources, while Goal 15 – Life on Land focuses on protecting natural areas and developing environmentally responsible tourism. Cooperation with Altai State University also contributes to Goal 17 – Partnerships for the Goals by creating opportunities for the exchange of scientific and educational experience.
Engaging international scholars in the educational process creates new opportunities to strengthen academic cooperation, integrate international experience into education, and enhance the professional training of future specialists.
