NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND EDUCATION: THE ROLE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
The integration of artificial intelligence into higher education is changing approaches to teaching and reshaping perceptions of educational outcomes. Today, AI is used in a wide range of areas – from searching for and analyzing information to developing educational materials, programming, modeling, and creating learning content.
According to Yerzhan Bagdanuly Domalatov, Director of the Department of Academic Policy and Educational Program Management at Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University, the key issue is not how widely technologies are used, but what real impact they have on the quality of education.
Artificial intelligence should not replace students’ intellectual work. On the contrary, it should contribute to the development of independence, critical thinking, and professional competencies. For this reason, greater importance is being placed on tasks that focus not on obtaining ready-made information, but on analyzing and comparing it, conducting research, supporting one’s own position with arguments, and solving practical problems.
This approach is also reflected in the methodological framework developed by Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University for substantiating the selection and application of modern teaching methods and technologies. The document identifies student-centered learning, interactive methods, practical orientation, and the effective use of digital technologies as key priorities.
At the same time, AI literacy is becoming an increasingly important component of the modern educational process. It includes not only the ability to work with neural networks, but also the ability to critically evaluate information, verify sources, identify errors, and use artificial intelligence in accordance with academic and ethical requirements.
Artificial intelligence does not replace the teacher. On the contrary, its development creates new requirements for professional teaching practice and opens up additional opportunities for organizing the educational process more effectively.
The main goal is to use technology not for its own sake, but to improve the quality of education, foster students’ independence, and develop their critical thinking.
